Certified knowledge

The Certified Operational Technology Cybersecurity Professional (TÜV) certification program actively assesses candidates using a combination of a professional career review, interview and technical examination.

Candidates worldwide will prove their knowledge in the following areas:

  • Combine general and specialist operational technology (OT) cybersecurity engineering knowledge and understanding
  • Application of theoretical and practical OT cybersecurity methods to the analysis and solution of cybersecurity problems

Certified experts are expected to continue their professional development and must undergo a new evaluation by TÜV Rheinland every three years to retain their certification.

Certification Program Title: Certified Operational Technology Cybersecurity Professional (TÜV)
Admission Requirements:
Minimum 10 years of experience in cybersecurity, including 5 years in leadership roles.
A Bachelors degree with honors in engineering or technology, plus either a Masters degree or Engineering Doctorate (EngD) accredited by a professional engineering institution in the candidate’s local country.
Examination Components:
Development and presentation of an OT cybersecurity case study followed by online live presentation and discussion/QA session with a TUV expert.
This will include oral examination questions related to OT cybersecurity.
Required Competencies:
Candidates will prove their knowledge in the following areas;
  • By using a combination of general and specialist operational technology cybersecurity engineering knowledge and understanding they can address the OT cybersecurity requirements of a business.
  • They can apply appropriate theoretical and practical operational technology cybersecurity methods to the analysis and solution of cybersecurity problems.
  • The candidate can provide technical and commercial leadership in the OT cybersecurity domain
  • They can demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate demonstrates a personal commitment to professional standards, recognising obligations to society, the profession and the safety of industrial and operational technology related implementations.
Recertification:
The recertification is based on the engineering work experience of the candidate in the previous 3 years including their continuous professional development (CPD) records in the field of OT cybersecurity.

1. How long does the certification last for?

3 years. You will be invited to renew your certification 6 months prior to your current expiry date.

2. Will I automatically be listed on Certipedia?

No, an additional payment is required for listing on Certipedia. This provides candidates with a more cost effective entry point to the program as not all certificate holders will want their details published.

3. If I fail the assessment will I be refunded my payment?

No.

4. If I achieve a high score in one area of the assessment but score badly in another area will I fail the certification process?

Not necessarily. Your overall performance will be evaluated in the assessment to determine if you meet the standard required.

5. How hard is the assessment?

The certification standard has been set at a level where most practitioners with 10 years of relevant experience should be able to meet the required standard.

6. I am new to cybersecurity. Will I be able to become certified?

The assessment is designed for practitioners with 10 years relevant experience. This certification is not designed for new entrants to the industry.

7. Can the assessment be conducted in my own language?

The assessment will be conducted in English. It is expected that over time other language support will be added.

8. How much time will it take to prepare for the assessment?

Most successful candidates will invest about 8 – 16 hours to prepare the case study but there is no set limit or assessment made on the time taken to complete this.

9. Can I present my own case study?

No.

10. Once I am certified what events and activities can I obtain at a discounted price?

You will be notified as and when suitable events and activities become available.
