Hong Kong MTR has awarded a contract to China’s train manufacturer CSR Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd., for the procurement of 93 new 8-car trains to replace the existing M-trains that currently serve the Kwun Tong Line (KTL), Tsuen Wan Line (TWL), Island Line (ISL) and Tseung Kwan O Line (TKL). The new trains are planned to be put into service between 2018 and 2023.
Tasks of TÜV Rheinland:
Hong Kong MTR appoints TUV Rheinland to perform the role of an Independent Safety Assessor (ISA) on the Critical Systems of the new trains, and on the interface between the signalling system and the new trains so that the trains can safely, efficiently and reliably operate and provide passenger services.
