Initial situation and requirements
Energiequelle GmbH is an operating company that plans and erects wind farms, biogas plants , photovoltaic plants and electrical distribution substations in Germany and Europe. The company is also engaged in grid connection services for private and public power grids. Since the adoption of the German System Service Ordinance by Wind Energy Plants in 2009 it has become mandatory that wind turbines and wind farms connected to the German medium or high voltage system fulfill the advanced requirements of the corresponding grid codes. An independent and accredited third-party is required by law to verify compliance and provide certification.

For the wind energy sector we provide a comprehensive service portfolio, covering every aspect of wind energy projects – from site selection, design and manufacturing support to dismantling plants.
Solutions, results
The main service provided in the project was verification of fulfillment of German grid code requirements as they apply to wind power plants connected to the high voltage transmission grid. The assessment of the wind farm’s characteristics principally involved load flow calculations resulting from simulations and dynamic stability analyses.
FGH carried out an assessment of the switching conditions, the protection devices and the system behavior of the plant under fault conditions. Further evaluation work involved determination of the current rating of power equipment and production facilities as well as the requirements for the construction and structure. The reactive power capability, system perturbations and active power reduction, including power management were also checked and all requirements were fulfilled.
