Initial situation and requirements
As an international EPC contractor , our client engages in the engineering, design and construction of various types of industrial facilities including the 700 million Euro OPTARA (OPtimization of The Antwerp-Rotterdam-Amsterdam area) refining project. In order to maintain the competitiveness of the Antwerp refinery, facilities are being adapted to produce less heavy fuel oil and more diesel and gas oil with ultra-low sulfur content. For this particular project, the international EPC contractor was asked to provide engineering, procurement and construction of a plant comprised of a solvent de-asphalting (SDA) unit and mild hydrocracker (MHC) fractionation section as well as a mild hydrocracker (MHC) reaction section and atmospheric residue desulphurization (ARDS) area.
Commissioning of the OPTARA project is scheduled for 2016. |

Solutions, results
To ensure compliance with the applicable civil work standards (Eurocodes) and other regulations, our client asked us to support them with project documents review and approval. A team of four qualified engineers provided services at the client‘s headquarters in Madrid and on-site in Antwerp.
We conducted extensive review and assessment of drawings and reports of structures during both temporary and permanent phases, evaluated foundations and verified classifications of hazardous areas. These assessments ensured that the final design document met all specifications, applicable codes and standards.
