Initial situation and requirements
The Government of Iraq has been challenged by reconstructing its infrastructure as well as trying to improve the economic situation of the country. To complete this complex mission, Iraq solicited financial and technical support from international donors and private companies.
The West Qurna Phase II was one of the numerous Iraqi reconstruction projects and involved many international support companies such as a Korean multinational company specializing in construction and shipbuilding. These companies shared the aspiration to export their products to Iraq and were held to standards under the conditions and criteria defined by the COSQC (Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control) of Iraq.
For the West Qurna Phase II procurement project, the government launched a Pre-Import Inspection, Testing & Certification Program (ICIGI) for all goods entering the Republic of Iraq and required third-party inspection of this same project.
“Investment in post-2003 Iraq” refers to national and international financial support and technical efforts to rebuild the country’s infrastructure since the end of the Iraq War. |
