Initial situation and requirements
The umbrella GBPC energy group currently owns and operates nine clean coal-fired power and diesel power plants. With total capacity of 627 MW, the company serves various electrical needs in the Visayas region and on Mindoro Island. Founded in 2003, Global Business Power Corporation is based in Makati City, the Philippines.
GBPC is one of the leading electricity providers in central Philippines and owns the largest clean coal-fired power plant in Cebu province with an individual 246 MW capacity located in Toledo City, Cebu. The plant supplies power to private utility companies, export and industry zones, mining and industrial companies as well as electric cooperatives.
Being one of the major players in the energy industry, Global Business Power Corporation has significant responsibility to provide trouble-free and reliable energy sources through safe and healthy operational conditions. The company required comprehensive safety assessment of all nine regional facilities to determine compliance with the requirements stipulated in the Philippine OH&S standard and general safety practices.

Solution and Results
The extensive safety assessment covered all the relevant areas and considered personnel, environmental, health, plant protection, equipment and component factors. Six experienced and well-qualified assessors from the areas of mechanical and electrical safety and occupational health and safety carried out the inspections and demonstrated TÜV Rheinland professionalism. These experts prepared all relevant documentation, including separate reports for each of the nine facilities and an executive summary covering the entire project.
