GS Mark

GS Mark – A Product Safety Mark for German Market

Free of harmful substances, safe against breakage or reliable electrics – the world-renowned GS mark is a valuable tool used by quality-conscious consumers when choosing products to purchase. We make sure that everything from toys and sporting equipment to electrical appliances used in the household fulfil the quality and safety standards specified by the German Equipment and Product Safety Act, ProdSG.

The GS mark proves that your product has been evaluated, tested and certified for electrical safety by an independent accredited third-party. How to Get a GS Mark?

According to clause §4 of the ProdSG – German Equipment and Product Safety Act manufacturers are only allowed to market products which do not compromise consumer safety and health either through intended use or foreseeable misuse. As an accredited third-party testing company, we check whether your product fulfils the GS mark requirements laid out by the prototype directive. If the product falls under European regulations such as low voltage guidelines, machine guidelines or EMC guidelines , we carry out the audit according to these specifications. Finally, we provide you a report and issue the GS certificate.

Our experts can test many product attributes including but not limited to electrical safety, ergonomic correctness, and chemical hazards from polymeric materials, electromagnetic compatibility and noise emissions.

In order for manufacturers to keep the GS mark, the law also demands that certified products be regularly checked to ensure continuous control on production. The GS mark requires a higher level of testing that exceeds the basic requirements for the CE marking .

The GS Mark was introduced in Germany in 1977 to meet the demands of local labor organisations, insurers and consumer protection organisations. The GS audit consists of verifying that technical work equipment and consumer products comply with all statutory safety and health requirements of the German Equipment and Product Safety Act (ProdSG).

Although the GS Mark originated in Germany, it is, in fact, accepted in multiple western European countries. Over the past decade, the GS mark has flourished on a large number of electronic products and machinery sold throughout the world.
