Carbon Footprint and Product Life Cycle Assessment

Put Your Sustainability to the Test

Every day, more and more people are making a conscious decision to go green - with everything from food to household items. Join the rest - and put your product sustainability to the test. As a neutral third party, our experts will help you conduct a life cycle assessment according to the DIN EN ISO 14040 and 14044 norms. Life cycle assessment (LCA) charts the environmental impact of every phase of your product's life - from raw materials to waste management. We examine energy and resource consumption, emissions to air and water, incidental waste, and toxicity and risk potential.

Compare - And Come Out on Top

As part of your life cycle assessment, we will also determine the product carbon footprint (PCF). This "footprint" tells you how many greenhouse gas emissions your product will generate over its entire lifetime. Improve your market position with a positive life cycle assessment. It can only do you - and the earth - good.

Benefits at a Glance

Product life cycle assessment and carbon footprint determined by the experts at TÜV Rheinland helps you to:

  • Identify and reduce a product's potential environmental impact
  • Lower costs by reducing your energy and raw material consumption
  • Improve marketing by feeling more secure in your product
  • Build consumer confidence in the quality and safety of your products
  • Gain a tool for process and product optimization
  • Set yourself apart from the competition

Our Approach

We will conduct your LCA according to the DIN EN ISO 14040 and 14044:2006 norms. The assessment comprises four phases:

We will work together to define your goal and the scope of the assessment.

Inventory Analysis
For the life cycle inventory analysis, we compile a register of all input and output data.

Impact Assessment
In the impact assessment stage, additional information is drawn into the equation - such as environmental impact. This serves as the basis for the fourth and final phase.

Following the testing period, the conclusions are discussed and summarized. You then receive a report of the results. To certify the study, we must verify the methodology and resulting data. This is followed by the so-called "critical review" - a careful examination according to the DIN EN ISO 14040 or 14044 norms. If the results are positive, you will receive your certificate.
