Thermal Solar Energy Technology

Qualification and certification of solar thermal components and systems

The solar thermal testing laboratory of the TÜV Rheinland Group renders services for national and international companies, which comprise the examination and certification of solar thermal products with regard to quality, safety and efficiency.

Methodology of Certification

The certification of solar thermal components comprises not only laboratory testing, but also the inspection of the production sites. In particular the production-related and quality assurance measures are evaluated in an initial inspection and subsequently during follow-up inspections. On the whole this means that a better and constant product quality is accordingly guaranteed.

Accreditation

The services offered by the solar thermal testing laboratory are being accredited in accordance with DIN / EN / ISO / IEC 17025 (DAP-PL-3885.00).

The laboratory is also accredited by DIN CERTCO as a test laboratory for SOLAR KEYMARK tests. (PL096).

Solar thermal collectors

Solar collectors are tested and certified in accordance with the standard/specification EN 12975. Part of this certification is the in-process inspection, which ensures a constant product quality.
Impact resistance tests can be carried out with ice balls.

Stores for solar heating

Performance characterisation of stores for solar heating systems is carried out in accordance with the technical specification EN TS 12977-3.

Factory made domestic water heating systems

(Integrated storage collectors, thermosiphon systems, etc). Testing is carried out on the basis of the European standard EN 12976.

Custom-built systems

Testing is carried out on the basis of the European technical specification TS 12977, whereby the CTSS procedure (Component Testing-System Simulation) is applied. Collectors, controllers and storage devices are all tested separately. The annual yield calculation is done by a simulation software
