Cologne, Germany. The TÜV Rheinland Group's 16th International Rheinland Award for Environmental Protection goes this year to Prof. Dr. Joachim Luther, head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Technology and physics professor at the University of Freiburg. This internationally-recognized solar energy expert is receiving the award for his outstanding, practice-oriented research in solar energy technology as a modern energy source and for his dedication as head of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Technology.
We are extremely honored, says TÜV Rheinland Group President and CEO Prof. Dr. Bruno O. Braun, to be able to bestow such an award to a renowned and innovative scientist like Prof. Luther, who's been committed for many years to researching regenerative energy sources.
The TÜV Rheinland Group has been awarding the International Rheinland Award for Environmental Protection with a 25,000 Euro grant since 1974. A panel of eleven jurors from business, science, and politics chose Prof. Luther from an international circle of candidates. The official award ceremonies will take place on 17 June, 2005 as part of a commemorative event at the historical Cologne City Hall building.
