ISO/TS 16949: 2002
What is ISO/TS 16949: 2002 about?
The Automotive industry has become an international industry and consequently, the need for a commonly accepted Management System has arisen. The International Automotive Task Force (IATF) and the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) created the ISO/TS 16949 standard to satisfy this need. This document unites the quality requirements that exist worldwide and is therefore recognised by the American, Japanese and European automobile industries.
The goal of ISO/TS 16949:2002 is the development of a globally recognised quality management system that provides for continual improvement, emphasising defect prevention and the reduction of variation and waste in the supply chain. This technical specification, coupled with applicable customer-specific requirements defines the fundamental quality management system requirements. For more information on customer specific requirements and how this may concern you, please contact us.
With the demise of QS 9000 in 2006, most companies have already begun preparation for the transition to ISO TS 16949. All of the vehicle manufacturers endorse TS 16949:2002 implementation in the supply chain, and for many customers, there is no nominated alternative.
Attaining and maintaining an ISO/TS 16949 registration, helps to continually improve performance focusing on effectiveness and efficiency of processes. Increased benefits, improved customer satisfaction, enhanced use of resources and reduction of waste, are amongst the advantages that can be gained. However, there are not only advantages for your company but also for the entire automotive supply chain, as it will enhance the reputation of being an industry striving for effective quality improvement and innovation.
