ASME Code
In plant engineering, the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code is the essential key to international markets. Export barriers can be overcome in the USA, Canada and some 85 other countries when components comply with the ASME code.
The ASME Code establishes the requirements for quality, assurance, design, manufacturing, inspection, testing and certification of:
- Power/heating boilers
- Power piping
- Pressure vessels
- Nuclear components
The benefits of TÜV Rheinland Services:
The prime purpose of TÜV is to assist companies in the cost effective application of the ASME Code with the referenced standards, such as ASTM, ANSI, SNT TC 1A.
TÜV services include, but are not limited to the following:
- Preparation for ASME certification
- Preparation of Quality Manuals with applicable procedures
- Training seminars and workshops
- Preparation or review of design calculations according to the ASME Code
- Assistance in the qualification of welding processes and welders
- Guidance on the application of jurisdictional regulations at the destination for components
- Inspection of components to be stamped with ASME Code symbol stamp
- Evaluation for the equivalency to different Codes and Standards for components
- Third-party inspection of components complying with the ASME Code but which are not subject to stamping with the Code Symbol stamp
ASME Codes as Application Regulation (according to PED)
The requirements according to PED and to the applied regulations (ASME Code) have to be met. ASME STAMP approval would be preferred but is not necessary. Starting from 1st July, 2003 the manufacturer has been fully responsible for the design and manufacturing of the pressure equipment; sharing of responsibility with the user, an engineering contractor or a designer is not possible.
The indicated Code has to be fulfilled in itself completely and in a logical way. The requirements of PED apply additionally. Other Codes/Regulations may be met as additional quality characteristics.
Manufacturers which use the ASME Code have to prove that the pressure equipment complies with the Essential Safety Requirements (ESR). Additional requirements to ensure compliance with PED have to be met.
