Laboratory Test & Measurement Equipment

Solutions for Laboratory Test & Measurement Equipment

Product safety and regulatory compliance is a critical issue for manufacturers of electrical equipment for measurement, control and laboratory use.

This category covers equipment for professional, industrial process and educational uses, including:

  • Electrical measurement and test equipment, able to measure, indicate or record one or more electrical or non-electrical quantities.
  • Electrical control equipment able to control one or more output quantity to a specific value by either manual setting or local/remote programming.
  • Electrical laboratory equipment able to measure, indicate, monitor or analyze substances.

Customer expectations have never been higher. Domestic and international distribution channels as well as end-users demand safety, reliability and rigorous compliance to existing and emerging standards. In this ever more complex environment, it only makes sense to look to a proven world leader for solutions. TÜVRheinland® is an international expert in the field of regulatory compliance, and our expertise goes far beyond CE Marking. In the lab and in the field, in highly industrialized and developing countries, our engineers perform product evaluations to certify conformance to safety and quality standards for producers and end-users alike.

EN/IEC 61010-1 Design Tips

Power Supplies
Component power supplies separately approved to EN 60950 are acceptable for use in equipment under the scope of EN 61010. However, there are some differences between EN 60950 and EN 61010 and additional testing may need to be performed.

Software Safety
Software safety is not specifically addressed in EN 61010 at present and therefore, there are no specific guidelines mentioned. Separate standards exist that deal with topic. Generally, it is advised that devices do not depend on software for their safe operation. There should be a separate independent means provided to prevent a dangerous condition.
