ISO/TS 16949:2002 – Certification in automotive industry

The Technical Specification ISO TS 16949:2002 was prepared by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) and Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association. Inc. (JAMA) with support of the Subcommittee ISO/TC 176 Quality management and assurance. The second edition ISO/TS 16949:2002 cancels and supersedes the first edition (ISO/TS 16949:1999), which was amended under technical aspects.
It includes the contents of the ISO 9001:2000 norm extended by additional requirements binding in the automotive sector. It standardises American (QS-9000), German (VDA 6.1), French (EAQF) and Italian (AVSQ) specialist standards in the automotive sector in order to eliminate the need for multiple certification audits and to ensure a common approach to the quality management system in the automotive industry. ISO/TS 16949:2002 is applied with respect to all organisations in which parts for production and / or service specifed by the Client are manufactured. The Specification can also be used in supply chains for the automotive sector.


What is IATF?

IATF is formed by an international group of vehicles manufacturers: BMW Group, Daimler-Chrysler, Fiat, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Corporation, PSA Peugeot-Citroen, Renault and Volkswagen, and domestic commerce association AIAG (USA), VDA (Germany), SMMT (Great Britain), ANFIA (Italy) and FIEV (France).
