FSSC 22000 (Food Safety System Certification) is a New International Certification Scheme at the sector of Food Safety Management Systems. It is the first standard that focus at the production/ processing of the industry (It is developed for the certification of food safety systems of food manufacturers that process or manufacture animal products, perishable vegetal products, products with a long shelf life and (other) food ingredients like additives, vitamins and bio-cultures).

FSSC 22000 contains a complete certification scheme for Food Safety Systems based on the food safety management standard ISO 22000: 2005 "Requirements for any organization in the food chain" and the publicly available specification for Prerequisite programs on food safety for food manufacturing, BSI PAS 220: 2008 and follows ISO 22003:2007 "Requirements of ISO 22000 certification bodies".

The FSSC 22000 certification scheme has been given full recognition by the Global Food Safety Initiative Board of Directors. It is expected to be equivalent to BRC & IFS standards, which will be cost effective for many food industries who had to keep multiply certificates for the established Food Safety Management System.

FSSC 22000 structure is as below:

  • Part I contains the requirements of the food safety system and guidance on how to apply for certification
  • Part II the requirements for providing certification, including the regulation for the CB's and for the harmonization committee
  • Part III the requirements for providing accreditation including the regulation for the AB's
  • Part IV the regulations for the Board of Stakeholders

TUV Rheinland Group has completed the Accreditation Procedure from the Accreditation Body Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS) www.dakks.de .
