Emergency communication systems / emergency communication centres
Emergency communications in only one lift in ten
An alarming statistic: of the 500,000 or so passenger lifts in Germany, only one in ten has a proper emergency communication system. As a consequence, lift passengers have to wait for hours on end in lifts that have got stuck.
More and more such cases are being taken to court. It does not have to get this far! The TÜV Rheinland Group was one of the first to enter new terrain over 15 years ago by evaluating emergency communication systems and centres for the lift systems of well-known lift companies.
What is important for lift system operators?
It has recently been stipulated that when lift systems are placed on the market they must be equipped with an emergency communication system connected to a continuously manned location (central building office/emergency communication centre). These systems must immediately activate the emergency communication system when the emergency button is pressed. The pertinent central office must clearly identify the incident and immediately establish spoken communications with the person who has triggered the alarm. The following emergency communication systems are available
- Emergency communication systems without an attendant function connected to a continuously manned location (e.g. central building offices)
- Emergency communication systems without an attendant function connected to emergency communication centres (e.g. lift companies)
- Emergency communication systems with an attendant function connected to emergency communication centres (e.g. lift companies)
Your advantages when using emergency communication systems with an attendant function
When using emergency communication systems with an attendant function, the main obligations on freeing trapped persons under Section 12 (4) of the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (BetrSichV) are assumed by this system.
We advise you as an operator
- We help you select the emergency communication systems to use as an operator.
Our many years of experience in this field mean that we are able to provide professional and neutral assistance at all times to lift systems operators when selecting emergency communications equipment. - We will assist you as an emergency communication system manufacturer or an emergency communication centre operator.
If required, we will provide consulting and support to manufacturers in planning, developing and manufacturing these systems. So as to document the quality and operational reliability of your product to your customers and protect yourself against possible product liability claims, we recommend voluntary type-examinations for all emergency communication systems. - In addition, we individually test your pertinent emergency communication centres as part of the overall scheme.
When there is a positive test result, the manufacturer is given a certificate for the voluntary type-examination and a test report which documents that the current guidelines and standards, such as DIN EN 81-28 Safety rules for the construction and installation of lifts - Part 28: Remote alarms on passenger and goods passenger lifts, DIN EN 81-70 Safety rules for the construction and installation of lifts – Part 70 Accessibility to lifts for persons including persons with disability and the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health, have been adhered to.
