Short Range Devices

Radio equipment operating in the frequency range 9 kHz-25 GHz with power up to a maximum 500 mW are commonly called Sort-Range Devices. Short Range Devices (SRD) require no license, they are popular for consumer applications and in recent years the market for such devices has grown rapidly. It is expected that this growth will continue at an accelerated pace as an increasing number of consumer devices incorporate wireless capabilities for reasons of mobility or remote control.

Typical examples for such products include:

  • Door chimes
  • Security and alarm systems
  • Garage door openers
  • Radio microphones
  • Cordless loudspeakers, headphones
  • Model controls

Wireless keyboards and essential requirements for short-range devices are laid down in article 3 of the R&TTE Directive Communications
