Japanese SG approvals for mechanical products

The Consumer Product Safety Association reports to the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Its main tasks are as followings:
- To draw up safety standards for consumer goods
- To award the SG mark recognized in Japan for mechanical product safety
- To award damages to accident victims who were harmed by SG certificated products
Safety standards now exist for 130 products including
- Children’s swings, vehicles and furniture
- Wheelchairs
- Ladders and stepladders
- Pressure cookers
- Helmets (for cyclists and motorcyclists)
- Roller skates
- Keep-fit equipment
- Mechanical lawnmowers
- Bicycles
- Cigarette lighters
As a CPSA approved assigned inspection institute, we would be delighted to undertake the appropriate tests and make the one-off visit to your production facility. Products that pass these tests are awarded SG certificate. Depending on the product category, it is valid for between two and five years. As long as products have a valid certificate, manufacturers are insured against accident damage involving their products.
