During the period between October 14 and 15, 2008, news papers have reported about the scandal regarding the modifications of wheel type excavators by Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo. According to the result of the initial investigation against our ISO 9001 certificated organization of Hitachi Construction Machinery Co., Ltd., Tsuchiura Works based in Tsuchiura-shi, Ibaraki-pref., Certification No. 09 100 5922, we have confirmed that there is no apprehension of non-conformity to the certification requirements including the effectiveness of their management system.
Dealing with Scandal News of ISO Certificated Organization -

News papers have reported about the scandal of our ISO 9001 certificated organization of Sanyo Gumi Co., Ltd. and Yamasa Gumi Co., Ltd. as a group certification in Gifu Prefecture during the period from September 24 to 26, 2008. Whenever such news has been provided from the mass media, we conduct the investigation so as to confirm the details of the news including the facts against the said organizations. Based on the result of the investigation, we shall judge and decide how to implement the special audit(s), or to suspend the certificate and/or to withdraw the certificate.
TÜV Rheinland and TÜV SÜD withdraw their application for a merger from the Federal Cartel Office – however, merger plans continue - Cologne/Munich, 26 August 2008

The management boards of TÜV Rheinland and TÜV SÜD have withdrawn the application for a merger of the two companies from the Federal Cartel Office on Tuesday with immediate effect. Both companies, however, continue to plan for a merger.

In accordance with the European Directive 2006/66/EC member states will prohibit the placing on the market of portable batteries or accumulators, including those incorporated into appliances, that contain more than 0.002 % of cadmium by weight from 2008-09-26 onward.
German Innovation Award - Gottfried Wagener Prize 2008

Inspired by the life of scientist Gottfried Wagener, this award has been initiated by twelve technology-focused German companies and the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan to encourage and support young researchers in Japan. The Gottfried Wagener Prize will be granted for the first time in 2008 under the patronage of the German Federal Minister of Education and Research, supported by the German Academic Exchange Service - DAAD - and Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.
