The Common Criteria for IT Security Evaluations (CC), also kown as the ISO 15408 has been developed by national security organizations around the world. CC evaluations involve formal rigorous analysis and testing to examine all security aspects of a product or system. The analysis activities delve into the developer's proprietary processes, implementation and documentation. Extensive testing activities involve comprehensive and formally repeatable means of confirming that the security product indeed functions as claimed. Security weaknesses and potential vulnerabilities are specifically examined during an evaluation.
