Introduction of the TÜV Rheinland Group

TÜV Rheinland having the headquarter in Cologne is the leading inspection organization of Germany and it has got a history of 130 years. 79 factory owners around Wuppertal agreed that they founded an association named DÜV (Dampfkesselüberwachungsverein) on 31st October, 1872, for inspection of 249 dampboilers operated by them, because of the frequent use of dampboilers the number of explosion accidents caused by them were raising. This organization was the predecessor of the recenti TÜV (Technischer Überwachungsverein). The activities of Technical Inspectorate had being increased by the technical growth to technical areas representing new risks. After the broad using of road vehicles the control of technical safety went out from the territory of companies to the streets.
TÜV Rheinland had merged with TÜV Berlin-Brandenburg in 1999, and they merged with  TÜV Pfalz company group in 2003. The TÜV Rheinland / Berlin-Brandenburg / Pfalz Group was created this way, that – since 6th November, 2003. has taken the name of TÜV Rheinland Group – 100 affiliated companies and representatives on 300 plants have being operated in 52 countries of four continents acting on 31 professional areas.

Introduction of TÜV Rheinland Middle- and Eastern-European Group

The Hungarian affiliated Company of TÜV Rheinland called TÜV Rheinland InterCert Kft. (TRI), as the centre and leader of TÜV Rheinland Middle- and Eastern-European Group  exercises owners rights and managerial, supervision rights as well over more Hungarian companies, and further companies situated in Latvia, Czech, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, Russia, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria. Macedonia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Kazahstan .

Introduction of the Hungarian Institute for Testing and Certification of Electrical Equipment Kft. (MEEI)

The general use of electrical energy at the beginning of XX. century made necessary to check safety of electrical apparatus. In more European countries (Germany, Switzerland) the elaboration of electrical standards and checking their keeping were carried out by the national  electrotechnical associations.

In Hungary following this way the Testing Station of the Hungarian Electrotechnical Association was created as one of the predecessors of  MEEI. The main tasks of this testing station were testing of electrical appliances used by laymen, installation materials furthermore explosionproof equipment to be used in coal-mines and places where the risks of explosions existed according to either safety requirements or standards created by the Association.
The Testing Station was nationalized in 1949-ben and merged with Industrial Quality Control Institute (IMEI). Within IMEI the Testing Station operated as part of Electrical Department and continued its previous activities till the termination of IMEI at the end of 1951.
Since 1st January, 1952. the Electrical Department of IMEI became a self standing company called as Industrial Electrical Testing Station under the supervision of Directorate of Heavy Current Apparatus of Ministry of Metallurgical and Machinery Industry. The name of Testing Station was changed to the Hungarian Institute for Testing and Certification of Electrical Equipment (MEEI) in 1957.
This name and its safety mark became well known and acceptable both within and outside the country:
 
The Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism changed the operation form of the budget owned institute to a state owned one share limited company on 31st December 1996, without change of its name.
The TÜV Rheinland InterCert Kft. bought from the Hungarian State the 100% business part of MEEI in 2005. MEEI became in this way one of the valuable members of TÜV Rheinland Group. Since 1st January, 2007 MEEI has been using the logo can be seen in the header.
MEEI became from a past some persons applied testing laboratory one of the biggest internationally recognized professional organization both in Hungary and Middle- and Eastern Europe.
