Argentina

Argentina has a modular system for product approval. In most cases, products are simply checked every time they go through customs. Electrical products with S mark certification qualify for reduced market surveillance. Either TÜV Rheinland or CB test reports are accepted.

Brazil

The Brazilian Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (INMETRO) is responsible for developing conformity assessment procedures and issuing accreditation. Standard procedures include:

  • Safety Approval
  • PROCEL method for testing energy efficiency
  • SELO RUIDO procedure for measuring noise emissions

Household Appliances
As of July 2011, all electrical household appliances must be tested for conformity with the international standard IEC 60335-2-x. Optional authorisation for various products is also possible. The certificates are valid for 2 to 5 years, depending on the product type. Extensions are possible on the basis of twice yearly inspections - which include select security checks.

Telecommunications
Telecommunication products in Brazil require approval and registration by authorised specialists. The national telecommunications agency ANATEL - Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações - carries out these procedures.

Medical Products
