New Regulations on Functional Safety

ISO 26262 is a Draft International Standard (DIS) on the functional safety of road vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tons. It has been in development since June 2009 and is scheduled for worldwide publication in mid-2011. It will replace IEC/DIN EN 61508, the current industry-specific standard for road vehicles from which it was adapted. Unlike IEC 61508, this standard was developed in cooperation with the automotive industry and with its specific needs in mind.

Directives and Standards for Functional Safety Testing

  • IEC / DIN EN 61508 "Functional safety of electrical/electronic/programmable electronic safety-related system"
  • ISO DIS 26262 "Road vehicles – Functional safety"
  • ECE-R 13 "Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles of categores M, N, and O with regard to braking"
  • ECE-R 13H "Uniform provisions concerning the approval of passenger cars with regard to braking"
  • ECE-R 79 "Uniform provisions concerning the approval of vehicles with regard to steering systems"
