Usability Compliance Testing - The Competitive Advantage for your Software

Take the lead against the competition with a neutral review of your software usability. Nowadays, applications hardly differ anymore, at least when it comes to functionality. However, an important factor in purchasing decisions and performance criteria is the level of intuition software brings with it – for efficient use. Make things easier for customers and users. The experts in our laboratory, accredited in accordance with ergonomics standard ISO 9241 and the DAkkS inspection method, can support you from the onset of your project. We can provide guidance when specifying use contexts, during product development, and right up to final testing and certification.

Software Compliance Audit in Accordance with the DAkkS test procedure based on the Usability Standard ISO 9241

Context for Usage
As a basis for testing the ergonomics of your software, our staff first need to establish in which context it is used. We identify the main user groups and the software’s main tasks, and their impact on ergonomic requirements. The context in which the software is used and standardized quality requirements form the basis for testing and certifying the product.

Derivation of Requirements
Based on the context scenarios, we derive the task requirements and the resulting demands for use of software product.

Inspection of the Product by Ergonomic Experts
Our IT ergonomics experts inspect the context-specific requirements and randomly test the general ergonomic software requirements of the software. The basis for this inspection are the context in which the software is used and the standardized requirements for ergonomics.

Evaluation of Documentation
We check the documentation of the product in terms of its clarity and consistency with the product.

Participatory Observation with Users
To fully assess the ergonomic quality of a product, participatory observation sessions are required with user groups, or with real users, and in the proper environment in which the software is used. This helps determine whether the product effectively helps users manage their tasks. Any hindrances are

Final Inspection and Certification
Our staff assesses the effects of all and any of the irregularities found during the checks and in the participatory observations. If no significant variances are found, we can certify that your software complies with ergonomics and usability norms.

Certification of Software Products

The following options are available for software certification:

Level 1 Cert: Conformity Certification of Functionality
This includes a certification on the basis of conformity assessment ISO / IEC 25 051 without a mark.

Level 2 Cert: Compliance with certification mark "TESTED FUNCTIONALITY"
This includes a compliance audit according to ISO / IEC 25 051 and an expert review of the software ergonomics - a context-free inspection of the ergonomics – on the dialog system.

Level 3 Cert: Conformity certification "APPROVED ERGONOMICS
The certification involves testing and certification in accordance with the DATech / DAkkS test method ISO 9241 on ergonomics and usability.

With the Level 3 certification you can prove that your software takes requirements of screen working regulations (Bildschirmarbeitsverordnung, or BildscharbV) into account.
