Certification According to IFS and IFS Logistic

Food Safety - from Manufacturers to Retailers

The International Food Standard, IFS for short, was developed in 2003 by the Handelsverband des deutschen Einzelhandels (HDE for short, or the German Retail Trade Association) for in-house brands sold by German and French retailers. It makes sure that quality stays stable along food industry production chains. With IFS Food or IFS Logistic certification - for transport and logistics companies and freight carriers - you show your customers that the food you manufacture and sell meets the highest safety, quality, and legal standards.

Benefits at a Glance

IFS or IFS Logistic from TÜV Rheinland enables you to:

  • Meet quality specifications set by trading partners at home and abroad
  • Improve your company’s performance and competitiveness
  • Increase food safety
  • Boost customer confidence

Five Steps to More Food Safety

Our experts help you acquire certification in six simple steps.

1. Pre-audit (optional)

Our auditors conduct a pre-audit to determine whether any requirements associated with this safety standard have already been implemented in your company and, if so, which ones.

2. Document Review

The auditing team determines the extent to which your management system documentation already concurs with our norms.

3. Certification Audit

You demonstrate practical application of your management system, and our auditors test how effective it is.

4. Issue of Certificate

If your company meets all of the criteria, your company is then awarded the certificate, showing compliance with the norms and that your risk management system adheres to the IFS or IFS Logistic standards.

5. Certification Renewal

In accordance with the requirements of frequency, the audit is repeated for certification renewal. This ensures continued improvement in your processes and also documents to partners and customers your long-term commitment to the safety of your products

Excellent Quality Management for Food Safety

IFS, or International Food Standard, certification is based on the ISO 9001norm. This standard incorporates food safety legislation requirements, principles of good manufacturing practice, and HACCP risk analysis processes in one quality management framework. It also regulates the handling of allergens and genetically modified (GM) organisms in compliance with current EU legislation.

International Recognition

The IFS standard is a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognized certificate and counts as one of the most important safety standards for food quality besides the BRC standard.
