The Path to Becoming a Non-Smoker - Program Modules
- Starter Set
Every course participant is given a starter set at the beginning of the program. It contains information that encourages people to take part in the course. The goal is to convince course participants of the efficiency of the stop smoking method using targeted information up until the start of the seminar. High expectations of success count as a good sign for sustained abstinence. The starter sets consists of a participant's file with information on the methods and course schedule, as well as an overview of the pros and cons of the final session and the reduction method. On top of that, each participant gets the Fagerström questionnaire for nicotine addiction and a questionnaire on motivation and ambivalence.
- Group Sessions
In 8 group sessions, participants tackle their attitude towards smoking and are encouraged to stop smoking for good. The compact seminar lasts over a period of 8 weeks, with one session of 90 minutes per week. The goal: each participant is informed about all aspects of quitting smoking and starts to feel like a proper non-smoker. Your employees are taught special techniques they can use in difficult situation - without even considering having to light up.
- Relapse Prevention
All participants who have taken part in the stopping smoking program, essentially ex-smokers who might have a relapse, can contact our qualified psychologist up to two more times in the first six months after finishing the course. They can talk about any difficulties that might have arisen, for example breaking abstinence, despondency, or side effects caused by medication.
Non-Smoker Initiatives Improve the Work Climate
We help your company become smoke-free, even during implementation of non-smoking laws in company agreements. Employees who want to stop smoking will become motivated non-smokers. Each participant gets customized support, including an individual smoker-profile analysis and carbon monoxide intake readout, guaranteeing an independent measure of success.
Reduced Sick-Leave Rates
Smoking causes disease. On average, smokers are absent 8 work days more in a year than non-smokers. Almost a quarter of all wage and sustenance payments are spent on diseases caused by smoking. Our anti-smoking program encourages a large amount of smokers in your company to become non-smokers, leading to healthier employees and ultimately saving your company money.
Smoking can cause tension, especially if staff is divided into smokers and non-smokers. "The smokers are always standing outside smoking," some non-smokers usually complain. "And I'm left here to do all the work!" Either that, or smokers smoke in the workplace and pollute air for non-smokers. Qutiting smoking seminars can help put an end to these problems.
Smoking affects performance: as soon as their nicotine levels go back, smokers get nervous. Smoking on top of this reduces oxygen intake. Sufficient oxygen keeps people healthier, more concentrated and balanced. That means a smoker’s level of performance is as good as limited. A stop smoking program can help employees be more energetic and improve company performance.
Increasing Smokers' Motivation
90% of the 16 million smokers in Germany want to quit smoking, but just don't know how. That causes frustration. However, wanting to become a non-smoker is a motivation in itself! A stop smoking program guides your employees in the direction of a smoke-free life and instills a new sense of motivation in the company.
... and the non-smokers?
Many non-smokers in Germany are irritated by tobacco smoke at the workplace. The law has recognized this and has stated the following as part of the work safety act: "The employer is obliged to meet required measures to ensure that non-smokers in the workplace are effectively protected against health dangers caused by tobacco smoke." The quit smoking program we offer is generally welcomed by non-smokers, since it helps considerably reduce the amount of smokers in a company. This means your non-smoking employees will also feel better in the workplace - another motivating feature!
A Way Out of a Dilemma
The smoking-free guarantee of the work safety act can force a company to implement a smoking ban. However, if smoking is banned without a seminar or any other supportive program, up to 27% of all employees will feel discriminated against – which isn’t good for the atmosphere in the workplace. However, the law won’t give the company further assistance in dealing with this type of dilemma. This is why smokers need to be given a fair chance to overcome their nicotine addiction.
Improved Corporate Image
Smoking is becoming less socially acceptable - these days it's better to be seen as a non-smoker. The tendency is clear - Germany is on the way to becoming a more health-conscious society. Your company can only benefit from this and be seen as highly progressive in the process!
