As of 1 October 2011, Stephan Schmitt is Chief International Officer of TÜV Rheinland AG. Born in 1961, on completion of his studies in 1986 the electrical engineering graduate joined the company as a technical expert in Japan. He then held various management positions in Asia before transferring to the USA in 1996 to become Managing Director of TÜV Rheinland of North America. Since 2009, as Chief Regional Officer North America, Stephan Schmitt has been responsible for the business in the USA, Canada and Mexico.

Stephan Schmitt is married and has three children.
