Dr. Manfred Bayerlein has been CEO of TÜV Rheinland AG since September 1st, 2011. Born in Bayreuth/Germany in 1959, Dr. Bayerlein has studied materials science and IT at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg/Germany. After completing his doctorate in 1991, he started working for the ABB Group, and was finally appointed to the Board of Management of ABB Service GmbH in Dortmund/Germany.

After working for MESSER Cutting & Welding as managing director for Germany and France, Dr. Bayerlein moved to TÜV Süd AG in 2003 where from 2008 his responsibilities as member of the Executive Board and Chief Operating Officer included the operating business.

Dr. Bayerlein is a member of the Executive Board of the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and a representative of the Supervisory Board of the Jülich Research Center.
