In its role as an independent, neutral third party, TÜV Rheinland tests, monitors, develops, promotes and certifies products, equipment, processes and management systems as well as services on the basis of statutory specifications and other relevant performance benchmarks and standards. In addition, it qualifies experts and provides training to people for numerous companies and industrial sectors and areas of life. In specific countries, the group also performs tasks to reduce the burden on the state, for example, in the technical testing of motor vehicles and industrial plants as well as checking driving licence tests.

Thanks to its wide range of tasks and areas of expertise, TÜV Rheinland is active in all relevant areas in researching and developing new technologies. It is also involved in developing new standards and safety standards and performs scientific research projects.
