Electrical Product Approval - According to DENAN Guidelines

Japan's DENAN law divides electrical and electronic products into two categories. Products in Category A require approval from a Recognized Conformity Assessment Body (RCAB), such as TÜV Rheinland. This conformity assessment is primarily based on IEC standards, but includes minor deviations determined by Japanese law. For products in category B, manufacturers must ensure conformity with Japanese standards and regulations. Depending on the category, the products receive either a square or a round PSE mark.

Optional S Mark Certification

The optional S mark certification is available for all electrical products - even for those that do not fall under the DENAN law. The S mark is an accepted designation of safety approval on the Japanese market.

Radio-Based Devices

Radio-based devices are tested according to Japanese radio frequency guidelines. Depending on the scope of the products, you can choose between the standard or simplified type-approval processes.

VCCI designation is optional. Members of the Voluntary Control Council for Interference by Information Technology Equipment (VCCI) can submit their TÜV Rheinland test reports for review - and request a VCCI label for their product.

Legal Regulations for Medical Products

Medical products in Japan must comply with the Pharmaceutical Affairs Law, or PAL. The Japanese Minister of Health, Labor, and Welfare has approved TÜV Rheinland Japan, Ltd. as an independent certification body. We are authorized to carry out the approval process for any product entering Japan. For more information, please consult our Web pages on medical products and technology.

SG Seal of Safety Approval for Mechanical Products

The Japanese Consumer Product Safety Association creates safety standards for consumer goods. As an approved inspection agency, we can conduct the tests required for your product - household and recreational devices, or mechanical toys. We then provide you with the SG seal of approval - short for "Safety Goods."

Requirements for Pressure Vessels

Pressure vessels imported to Japan must be tested before their initial use. The core elements of the required documentation must be provided in Japanese. Our Design Approval Service helps you save time and money. We will also help you complete your application.

Korea

Amendments were made in 2009 to the approval process for products entering Korea. For select product categories, a test certificate suffices – instead of legal approval. These products receive a KC certification number, instead of the EK mark.

Singapore

In 2002, Singapore replaced its state certification system with a third-party certification model. Under this plan, so-called conformity assessment bodies (CAB) are responsible for testing and product approval. The head authority is the Standards, Productivity, and Innovation Board, called SPRING. TÜV Rheinland is a SPRING-accredited CAB and is authorized to issue certificates of conformity (CoC). SPRING letters of acknowledgment (LOA) are based on these CoCs. The certificates are also required when applying for safety approval marks. Authorization is required for a range of regulated products - like power supplies, select household appliances, home computers, air conditioners, and fans. A recognized test laboratory (RTL) can issue the test reports required for product approval.
