Explosion Protection
Ensure Compliance with the ANZEx, IECEx and ATEX Directive
If you manufacture or sell equipment or protective systems for use in or in conjunction with potentially explosive atmospheres internationally (IECEx), especially in Australia (IECEx and / or MP87) and the European Union (ATEX), your products need to conform to a relevant hazardous area scheme / system (IECEx, MP87 or ATEX (ATmospheres EXplosibles) directive).
IECEx: The objective of the IECEx System is to facilitate international trade in equipment and services for use in explosive atmospheres, while maintaining the required level of safety. TUV Rheinland Australia is an ACB and ExTL under the IECEx system, approved to do test and certification of equipment including flameproof (Ex d) and intrinsic safety (Ex i). In addition TRAU can issue QAR’s (Manufacturer’s Quality audit reports), including for production and repair or overhaul (Service facilities). (For scope of approval under the IECEx see the IECEx website, information, ExCB’s)
ANZEx: The Australian Program for the Certification of Equipment for Explosive Atmospheres is commonly referred to as the ANZEx Scheme. The ANZEx Scheme rules and procedures for the equipment certification program are defined in Miscellaneous Publication MP87-1: 2008. This includes product type testing, including flameproof (Ex d) and intrinsic safety (Ex i), as well as the associated auditing of manufacturers’ production capabilities according to the requirements of MP87.
ATEX: The ATEX directive’s scope includes safety devices, controlling devices, and regulating devices, as well as equipment intended for use outside potentially explosive atmospheres, but required for or contributing to the safe functioning of equipment and protective systems. TUV Rheinland Australia can assist in obtaining ATEX certification via TUV Rheinland Germany (Notified Body under ATEX)
Through test and certification as well as auditing, TÜV Rheinland, as an approved certification body under the schemes / systems can test and certify your product for IECEx, ANZEx and the ATEX directive.

Further Information
Our Services for the ATEX Directive
We provide our clients with everything they need to comply with the IECEx, ANZEx and ATEX Directive. If you are manufacturing or selling equipment or protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, you will need to conform to the IECEx, ANZEx or ATEX Directive as applicable for the country you sell into.
This includes electrical and mechanical equipment and protective systems for use on surface, mining, on fixed offshore installations etc. It relates to all equipment, protective systems, safety devices, controlling devices, regulating devices and components (defined as any item essential to the safe functioning of equipment).
Compliance with the applicable hazardous area schemes / systems (IECEx, ANZEx or ATEX) is mandatory in most countries.
The ATEX Directive is a CE Marking Directive, which means products that fall under the scope of the directive are subject to CE marking.
