Usability process assessments

Certificate

A high amount of safety and quality is necessary for a good market result. We support you from the development of your product to mass production and if desired also beyond that. Secure yourself advantages in competition, a minimisation of the risk from product liability and a creation of confidence from your customers, by our certificate.

Internationally recognised quality statements and test signs can be components of advertisements and are thus a clear advantage in competition.

As an accredited laboratory we examine for example the following products:

  • audio/video devices
  • display devices
  • printers
  • input devices (mouse, keyboard...)
  • flat screens
  • graphic boards
  • Organizer (Pocket-PC)
  • PC's and notebooks
  • Projectors
  • Scanner

Based on relevant guidelines, laws, norms and standards we examine ergonomic requirements and recommendations and quality characteristics, like:

  • Audio-/Video quality parameter (frequency range, frequency response, resolution, colour rendering etc.)
  • Benchmark-Test, performance and measuring of effectiveness
  • User-friendliness and suitability for use
  • Image quality (luminance, contrast, character presentation, geometry, anti-reflection, colour presentation, flicker, jitter, convergence, pixel faults etc.)
  • Energy consumption and energy efficiency
  • Design and content of manuals
  • Properties of the design
  • Noise emission
  • Light technical properties (light output, colour reproduction etc.)
  • Mechanical robustness, permanency, long time behaviour
  • Electrical and magnetic emission
  • Spot checking / permanent checking for characteristics
  • Transmission- and reflection characteristics
  • Environment checking (temperature, dampness, shock, vibration)

Depending upon requirement the results are presented in a test report, data sheet, expert opinion, presentation and/or with a test sign.

GS-sign
The GS-sign is a foundation for protection of a save and controlled product quality for the IT-buyer.

Requirements:

  • Electrical and mechanical safety (EN 60950)
  • Basic requirements to the ergonomics (EK1-ITB 2000)
  • Proof of a controlled production of the manufactured products
  • Proof from a third/certification body

ECO-circle - sign
With the ECO-circle, products can document to the customer that they meet all requirements of safety, ergonomics and ecology from the present time.

Requirements:

  • Requirements to the GS-sign
  • Low radiation
  • Recycling
  • Harmful substances
  • Energy saving
  • Noise

Certification and product quality at TUVdotCOM
On your wish we document the quality of your product, by bringing it online on TUVdotCOM.

Requirements:

  • Proof of the electrical/mechanical reliability
  • Individual product based quality parameter

Testable and as signification possible are for example the following product characteristics:

Ergonomics: "ergonomic standard", "User-friendly"
Emissions: "Low radiation"
Environment: "Tested for harmful substances", "Recyclable", "Low radiation"

A foundation herewith are national and international DIN-, EN-, ISO standards, e.g. for the ergonomics: ISO 13406-2, ISO 9241, ISO 7779, also within the scope of the EU guideline for working at screens 90/270 and the German "Bildschirmarbeitsverordnung".

The foundations are constantly updated by adaptation to the newest EU-guidelines (2002/95/EG - RoHS, 2002/96/EG - WEEE), the state of technology, the normative rulebook and requirements of the market, like for example: "Blauer Engel", "EPA" and "Stiftung Warentest"

User-centred design and customer processes

A user-centred design is characterised by the following features:

  • Users and customers are allowed to play an active role in the product design process.
  • A clear understanding exists in terms of user and customer requirements as well as with regard to the demands set in order to perform the task concerned.
  • The required functions are allocated in an appropriate manner to the users and the design techniques applied.
  • Within the framework of the design process, design solutions are interactively processed together with users/customers.

Multi-disciplinary teams are incorporated into the design process.

User-centred design measures:

The user-centred design of interactive systems can generate significant economic and social benefits. The following are some of the advantages products developed using this kind of design process enjoy:

  • The products are easier to understand and simpler to use for both customers and users, thus enabling the costs and effort involved in learning and training as well as in support and service provision to be reduced.
  • The products enhance user effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction by reducing non-compliance and stress.
  • The products give the manufacturer/customer a competitive edge thanks to their improved quality, enhanced looks and effectiveness.

Testing procedure:

The manufacturer has to undergo an audit to prove that he applies user-focused procedures as per ISO 13407 in the development of interactive systems.

Certificate:

By means of the "ISO 1307 Tested" certificate awarded by TÜV Rheinland Product Safety GmbH, manufacturers are able to document vis-à-vis their customers that their product development processes are of a user-focused design and consider the important usability aspects for high user satisfaction.
