Certification of hotels

In order to compile the audit report, the TÜV Rheinland auditors collate information, initially incognito, and then clarify matters of detail. They do this directly with reception, room service or catering staff, for example. Photo: TÜV Rheinland

Certification of hotels

Initially incognito and then as normal guests, TÜV Rheinland auditors check into hotels that are looking to obtain certification. Once they have used the hotel’s services as a guest on the first day, they will disclose their identity as auditors the following day. At this point, they will inspect behind the scenes. Certification of hotels

The last step of the hotel audit is a discussion of the findings with the hotel manager. Finally, TÜV Rheinland compiles this detailed report and, in the event of a successful audit, issues the relevant certificate. This is how the Radisson SAS Hotel in Cologne, with its general manager, Jürgen Wirtz (pictured right), for example, was certified according to TÜV Rheinland’s Service Quality System in 2007. Work, not relaxation: in the first part of the hotel audit, the specially trained auditors from TÜV Rheinland collate information, initially incognito. In hotels with such facilities, the spa area and spa services themselves must be tested, without the employees knowing that it forms the first part of the inspection. In designated health spa resorts, particular emphasis is placed on the quality of services. Photo: TÜV Rheinland

Holiday destination South Africa

As a holiday destination, South Africa believes in quality standards for service and wellness facilities audited by TÜV Rheinland. By the end of 2008, the independent service provider for quality plans to issue certificates to around 100 providers of tourism services in the country, which will host the 2010 World Cup; these include hotels, local tour operators and wellness hotels.
