Quality management systems
ISO 9001: A globally recognized standard
By choosing to become certified to ISO 9001:2000ff you are opting for a standard that your customers know and trust. You can also use the TÜV Rheinland certification mark in your communication material. The process orientation of ISO 9001 helps you to implement and establish a management system.
Choice of five systems
The most common quality management systems for educational institutions are ISO 9001, BQM, EFQM, LQW, and the QM level model. Any of these systems can be used to meet the requirements of the German Endorsement Requirements for Further Education (AZWV). The important factor is that you implement it effectively.

BQM (Bildungs-Qualitäts-Management): Quality Management for Education
The standard used in real life. Organizations belonging to the BBB (German Association of Institutions for Vocational Training) have translated the requirements of the AZWV accreditation into specific action measures for the BQM. These concentrate on the core processes, making the AZWV viable for educational institutions.
EFQM: Total Quality for Education
Total Quality for Education has been developed by the European Foundation for Quality Management. It is a demanding instrument for assessing the success of quality assurance measures and is implemented by many companies as a benchmarking instrument for managers.
LQW: Learning-focused quality evaluation in further education
The German Federal Ministry of Education and Research has, in cooperation with the German Länder, launched a demonstration project establishing the ground rules for a learner-focused quality model. The starting point for quality improvements is to consider the learner as a ‘future producer’ of education.
The QM level model: PAS 1037
The QM level model is designed primarily for educational institutions that provide further education courses for the business world. The DIN standards committee saw through its development and published the results in the PAS 1037 standard. QM-Stufen-Modell (QM level model) is a registered trademark of RKW Brandenburg.
