President and CEO of TÜV Rheinland Group
Cologne/Düsseldorf. Prof. Dr. Bruno O. Braun has been in charge of the TÜV Rheinland Group since 1993. He completely reorganized the group, changing it from a characteristically regional testing organization commissioned by the government into a service provider on the free market. Within this timeframe he integrated TÜV Pfalz, TÜV Berlin Brandenburg and the Motor Vehicle Certification Body of theTÜV Saarland into the group. The LGA in Nuremberg will be integrated and expanded in the course of a PPP (public private partnership).
Today, TÜV Rheinland Group has a business volume of 900 million euro and 11,000 employees, thus belonging to the world’s largest enterprises for safety and quality.
Prof. Dr. Bruno O. Braun, born on August 26, 1942 in Bietigheim (Wuerttemberg), began an apprenticeship to become a mechanic before taking his college entrance exams. He then studied mechanical engineering, earned his doctorate and was promoted to professor. Equipped with a combination of practical and scientific knowledge, he began his career in the industrial sector. For 25 years he has been a member of the board of various incorporated companies and has been their president and CEO for 20 of those years.
He has also volunteered his time to many social and cultural institutions. In addition, Prof. Braun has been an honorary consul of the Republic of Latvia since 1994.
In 2003 he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit 1st class of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Since May 2007, Prof. Braun has been president of the VDI – the Association of German Engineers representing the interests of roughly one million engineers in Germany.
