Notified Body for EMC

The Notified Body for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is a special feature of the EMC directive. It is required if there are any deviations from harmonised standards, or if no harmonised standards exist.

One reason for such a deviation is a test "on-site". In cooperation with the client, the Notified Body prepares a testing plan for a product to be tested, which is then tested by the accredited EMC laboratory of TÜV Rheinland Product Safety GmbH. After the test has been conducted, the laboratory results are evaluated by the Notified Body and, if the product meets the requirements, it is confirmed with a conformity certificate.

It could happen that a harmonised standard exists for a device, but the compliance with the prescribed requirements in the standard is not possible, due to the equipment's function principle. Here too, the Notified Body can be brought in, in order to evaluate the deviations and, if necessary, supplemented by directives (e.g. restriction of the area of use or the attachment of warning notices), to declare conformity.
