Cars with a better crush zone for pedestrians
Accidents between cars and pedestrians often result in serious head and leg injuries. The design of the vehicle front and engine bonnet plays a key role in reducing serious consequences for pedestrians as much as possible in the event of a collision. Thanks to state-of-the-art technology, the testing facility at the TÜV Rheinland Group's Pedestrian and Passenger Protection Laboratory is helping to achieve optimal protection for vulnerable road users even during the development phase of new cars. Vehicle for checking the condition of roads
Mobile testing of road conditions: the experts from TÜV Rheinland LGA test the road surface using a special vehicle equipped with extremely accurate laser sensors. These detect all grooves and cracks to the nearest millimetre. In addition, a special scanner provides high-resolution pictures of every detail of the road surface, while the surroundings are recorded by a front camera system. As a result, the on-board computers supply extremely detailed information about the road surface. The purpose of the tests is to enable highway agencies to deploy the financial means for maintenance measures according to plan. Photo: TÜV Rheinland LGA
