Manufacture
There are new, innovative possibilities for the manufacturer.
After almost "a century of lift engineering", it is now possible for the first time, since 01.07.1999, for lift manufacturers to implement creative and innovative solutions in lift construction without being pushed in specific directions by rigid standards.
This "novelty" was achieved by introducing the "Guidelines on Lifts and Machines" in the European Union.
Only the basic safety and health requirements are listed in these guidelines as objectives of protection which must be taken into account in designing and constructing lifts.
The European standards, such as EN 81-1/2, include examples as solutions for the application of the EU guidelines.
Each lift manufacturer can thus decide for himself as to whether he wants to construct in conformity with the standards or to use his own solutions involving deviations from the European standard. The cost/benefit effect should always be considered here.
It is important in developing and implementing new, innovative solutions in lift engineering that the Lift Guideline and at least the state of the art be observed and/or even improved on.
The designer must use risk analysis to examine every new development solution and obtain confirmation from a notified body, such as TÜV Rheinland Group, before the designed system can be marketed.
