Safety and Quality Protection Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)

Offer your customers safety and quality - with ESD-tested products

ESD - what does this abbreviation mean?

ESD stands for ElectroStactic Discharge. The critical thing is not so much the electrostatic charge of objects or people occurring in connection with this, but rather the high discharge currents, which can be created in a fraction of a second with amplitudes of up to 100 A.
Example: "electrostatic charge", created through movement on a foam-upholstered chair: 18,000 V (related to relative air humidity of 10 - 20 %)

What consequences does this have?

Many modern semiconductor structures only tolerate a few volts - and here the trend is towards ever more efficient chips with a greater application spectrum and an even lower current capacity.

What happens if ESD occurs in an uncontrolled manner is vividly illustrated by well-known disasters:
The Hindenburg airship fire 1937 in Lakehurst"Explosion of a Pershing rocket 1985 in Heilbronn.

The resulting costs are immense. A study carried out in the USA showed that the ratio of analysis costs to savings through prevented ESD damage amounted to 50,000 : 5,000,000 US dollars.

In other words - prevention is better than cure

Comprehensive protection is possible - in all ESD-critical areas:
