Name: Christiane Olry
Function: Damage analyst
Company: TÜV Rheinland Werkstoffprüfung GmbH, Institute for Materials Testing
Location: Cologne
At the Institute for Materials Testing, I am mainly involved in the analysis of damage. It involves the on-site examination and assessment of damage and the elaboration of remedial measures. Another aspect of my work is monitoring corrosion in building components and installations. My duties also include the processing of material selection queries - with an expert appraisal if necessary - and queries about corrosion-protected construction and processing.
I completed a period of work experience at TÜV Rheinland Werkstoffprüfung GmbH's Institute for Materials Testing while I was a student.
When I was at the Institute for Materials Testing on a work experience programme, I was very impressed by the positive working climate and it got me interested in damage analysis and corrosion. That's why I looked at the subject of corrosion in more detail in my second degree course.
The main career support that I receive is as a result of my excellent working relationship with my colleagues. When you're investigating a damage incident, you have to discuss it in detail with your colleagues, and they make valuable contributions to ascertaining the type of damage and what caused it. I also take part in education measures such as language courses, certification courses and seminars provided by TÜV Rheinland.
