Consumer tips - Garden furniture

Keep your eyes open when buying garden furniture! Chairs, tables and recliners for outdoors may often look the same, but are designed for different purposes. Furniture experts make a distinction between camping, daily use in your garden and outdoor furniture for commercial use.

Some plastics do not withstand high summer temperatures.

A good specialist retailer will know the differences and help you to find garden furniture for your particular requirements. Therefore, not all tables and chairs are suitable for the balcony. If the balcony is south facing, the thermometer can rise up to 60 degrees in high summer. Less durable plastic furniture will not withstand these temperatures.

Plastic, Aluminium or wooden furniture?

Plastic furniture will generally lose its appeal quickly after exposure to strong sunlight and heavy rain. Its benefit, however, is that it requires hardly any care and is lightweight. Aluminium furniture is heavier and therefore more stable. It too is relatively easy to care for and you can often repair minor damage yourself. There is wooden garden furniture made from indigenous woods (mostly with weather-resistant scumbling coat or coat of lacquer) or from particularly hard exotic woods such as teak. Their great plus is that damaged areas look just like new again after being sanded down and treated with a fresh scumbling coat.
