Consumer tips - Cycle helmets (tested according to EN 1078)
Only a helmet that fits exactly offers the best protection against accidents. Therefore purchase head protection that fits the shape of your head and size well. It should fit snugly but not restrict you. Your forehead, temples and back of your head must be safely covered. It is advisable if chin straps and buckles can be fastened and adjusted easily but not too easily. In every case, where the helmet is damaged by an accident, it should be replaced.
Helmets for children
There is headgear with ventilation for when it is warm. Your children too, will prefer to put on a ventilated helmet. Head protection is particularly important for them, as their cranial bones are softer and more susceptible to injury. You should not buy your child a helmet they have yet to grow into.
Important: Remove the helmet in the playground!
Also take care that your child removes the helmet in the playground, as kids can get their head protection caught up and wedged in climbing nets and wall bars. And a child can easily be hanged accidentally by the chin straps from a climbing frame. Thereby is a risk of hanging for your child because of the fact that the chin strap buckle does not open by itself. Special impact protection helmets for children (tested according to EN 1080) are available for playing on playgrounds. These helmets have a self release buckle which opens at a force of over 5 kg load.
