Consumer tips Child seats for cycles
If you want to buy a new child seat for the bike, you should take the weight class of the seat and the capacity of the carrier into account. Seats are generally designed for a body weight of between nine and 22 kg. Carriers have to be labelled for the particular weight class. With cheap second-hand bargains you run the risk that they have not been used correctly and possibly put under considerable strain.
Injury risks at the bicycle
Particular care is called for when you have a child as a passenger. If the little ones sit in the back, the saddle coils or springs must be covered, so that the little passengers do not catch their fingers. Also take care that your child does not get their feet caught in the spokes.
Attention: Longer stopping distance!
In every case, it is recommended that before you take your first ride together you try out the seat in a stationary position to check that the seat does not obscure the rear light. You should also test the condition of the brakes, a higher weight will lengthen your stopping distance.
