Reflectors on children’s clothing
For older and smaller children alike: reflectors offer pedestrians the best possible protection when the days are short, as they are seen much sooner by motorists. The GS mark provides security upon purchase. Photo: TÜV Rheinland
Packing satchels
The key rule for primary school children is only to pack their satchels with what they actually need. The experts at TÜV Rheinland recommend that together with its contents, the satchel should not weigh more than ten percent of the child's body weight. In addition, the shoulder straps need to be adjusted correctly, as otherwise the child may experience pain or even back problems. Photo: TÜV Rheinland
Teddy bears
There's no let-up for teddy bears and other members of this species. The experts from TÜV Rheinland Product Safety in Cologne as well as specialists at 24 laboratories in China and at LGA QualiTest in Nuremberg put toys and other products to the acid test. The professionals in Nuremberg alone test over 4,000 toys each year at Europe’s largest institute for the testing of toys. As well as the flammability of teddy and friends, all mechanical and chemical requirements for safe toys undergo meticulous examination. Photo: TÜV Rheinland
Safety is no child’s play
Playground equipment that has been damaged due to the weather or vandalism or which has been incorrectly designed or assembled poses a major source of danger for small children: According to TÜV Rheinland, eight out of ten playgrounds in Germany fail to meet safety requirements. The experts therefore provide advice to playground constructors and maintenance authorities, test the playgrounds themselves, and ensure that the staff of maintenance authorities receives training to become skilled playground testers. Safety tests for jogging prams
The European safety standard EN 1888 is a uniform set of safety requirements and test methods for prams which is valid across Europe. These are tested meticulously by the experts at TÜV Rheinland in order to transport small children safely in prams. For example, measurements and weight are painstakingly inspected and prams are put through a practical test in order to inspect quality and safety. Photo: TÜV Rheinland
