Check list motorcycle
You can test the traffic safety of your motorcycle based on this check list:
General:
- Are parts such as the handlebars, exhaust, fairings, and tires original? If not, are they entered in the vehicle papers or does an ABE (General Motor Vehicle License) exist?
- Do the frame numbers match the vehicle papers?
- Is there a data plate?
- Are all mirrors intact and not dulled at any point?
Electrical system:
- Do the bright, dim, tail, brake, and turn lights work? What about the horn?
- All lamps, including control lamps must light up brightly and with a uniform intensity.
- The reflectors of the headlights may not be dull and the light housing must be undamaged.
- Does the speedometer work?
Wheels and tires:
- Check depth of tread of the tires
(minimum 1.6 mm or 1.0 mm with light motorcycles). - Tires and rims may not be damaged by means of splits, lumps, or cuts.
- Are the front and rear wheels in the same track?
Brakes:
- Do the brakes engage quickly and forcefully?
- Check the brake lines and hoses for seal and freedom from obstruction.
- Wear of the brake lining and brake discs may not exceed the set wear amount.
- Check the age of the brake fluid (if it is a brown color, it should be changed).
Steering system:
- The handlebars should neither shake nor cause noticeable noises.
- The steering must stay in the correction position when driving straight.
- Turn the steering from stop to stop at a standstill (take weight off of front wheel for this): this must be easy to move and without catches.
Engine:
- Can leaks in the engine be seen?
- Pay attention to brittle hoses and other rubber parts
- Check the oil level of the transmission and engine.
Frame:
- Is the frame undamaged?
- Are the seats, luggage racks, etc. securely fastened?
- Is the exhaust intact, meaning no rust or damage?
- Can the frame number be read easily?
- And is the tag easy to read and securely attached?
