Check list for your automobile

Here is the check list for your automobile:

The following accessories must be on board:

  • Warning triangle
  • Certified first-aid kit with protective gloves
  • Intact internal and external mirrors

Lighting:

  • All lamps, including the control lamps inside the vehicle, must light up brightly and with a uniform intensity.
  • The reflectors of the headlights may not be dull and the light housing must be undamaged.

Brake test:

  • The hand brake should be easily operable, meaning easy to engage and disengage, it should apply before the lever reaches its stop.
  • Does the foot brake function quickly and forcefully?
  • The vehicle must also stay in your lane during hard braking.
  • The rubber coatings on the pedals should not be too worn.

Tire check:

  • A minimum of 1.6 mm tread must be present to pass the test. For your safety, you should replace summer tires when they have 2 mm of tread remaining and winter tires after 4 mm of tread.
    (A tip for testing the tire tread: Stick a coin in the grooves of the tread. If the outside edge of the striking is hidden, there is still enough tread.)
  • Tires and rims may not be damaged by means of splits, lumps, or cuts.

Steering system:

  • The steering should be easy to move, precise, and without play.
  • The steering wheel should neither shake nor cause noticeable noises
  • The steering must stay in the correction position when driving straight

Rust on the vehicle:

  • Check regularly whether there is rust on the underbody, bearing parts, or the exhaust system.
  • All bearing parts, especially the suspension should be free of rust.

Measures to avoid a fire in the engine compartment:

  • No loose lines or extraneous parts should be in the engine compartment.
  • The battery must be correctly installed and attached.

Noise and smoke:

  • If the automobile smokes or makes unusual noises, you should visit a garage before presenting it to the TÜV.
  • Is everything all right? The emissions inspection can be carried out in our service center at the same time as the main inspection.
