Certification Process
The certification process is usually conducted in two stages:
Initial Audit
In an Initial Audit auditors check whether the design of the management system is suitable for its operations and whether it considers all of the standards requirements. Then, auditors issue a report indicating the systems strong points and improvement potentials.
Certification Audit
A few weeks later, in the Certification Audit, auditors check the implementation of the improvements agreed and formally review the management system to determine its compliance with the requirements of the standards to be certified.
Thus, adjustments and corrective actions are allowed after the first stage (Initial Audit), so as to be better prepared for second stage (Certification Audit).
Follow-Up Audits
Follow-up Audits are necessary to maintain the validity of the certificate through time; they can be annual or six-monthly, according to the needs of each company.
