ISO 16949

The Certification of Quality Systems pursuant to ISO/TS 16949 is intended for automotive industries belonging to the network of suppliers of the main manufacturers, such as: VW, Fiat, Ford, General Motors, Iveco, Mercedes Benz, Nissan, PSA, Renault, Chrysler, BMW, etc. It is also used by other suppliers of manufacturers that acknowledge the above-mentioned specification.

The ISO/TS 16949 specification is an extension of the international ISO 9000 standard series with specific requirements regarding sector and customer. It is the outcome of the harmonization of the following standards:

  • The United States QS 9000 standard (with Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors).
  • The German VDA 6.1.
  • The French EAQF.
  • The Italian AVSQ.


Those companies that have implemented a quality system pursuant to the ISO 9001:2000 series can extend the certification in order to include the aspects covered by the TS 16949. The ISO/TS 16949 certificate includes the certification pursuant to the ISO 9001:2000 series.

Accreditation and acknowledgment

TÜV Rheinland is accredited by the IATF (International Automotive Task Force) to audit and certify Quality Systems pursuant to the ISO/TS 16949 technical specification.
